Reigning champions Senegal were dispatched in penalties by hosts Ivory Coast in the quarterfinals. Super sub Franck Kessie converted two of the biggest spot kicks in AFCON history, equalizing for the hosts in the 86th minute and sealing Les Elephants place in the quarterfinals with the decisive penalty after 120 minutes failed to settle things.

Ivory Coast then beat Mali in dramatic fashion in the quarters, as they scored a 122nd minute winner after going down to 10 men in the 43rd minute. The hosts are the story of the tournament as they fired their manager after the group stage, just scraped through but are now two wins from glory on home soil.

This tournament started with big shocks and the drama has just kept on coming...

What is coming up?

We are now at the semifinal stage with some mouthwatering ties and two teams were expected to get this far and two teams were not.

DR Congo have made it through to the semifinals after beating Guinea and they face Ivory Coast, while South Africa won a dramatic penalty kick shootout against Cape Verde to set up their semifinal against Nigeria. South Africa goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams was the hero as he saved four penalty kicks in the 2-1 shootout win and that sums up this chaos tournament nicely.

As for Nigeria, they beat Angola as the Super Eagles have quietly gone about their business with minimum fuss and look like the strongest team left in the tournament.

Below is everything you need for the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2024.
